Electroporation FAQs

Q. Are your cuvettes universal?

A. Yes, the Cell Projects cuvettes are universal to most common electroporators; the only manufacturer not compatible is the old BRL / Life Technologies equipment that uses a completely different cuvette design to other manufacturers. For cuvette detail please refer to our catalogue.

Q. We have recently seen a drop in efficiency, why is this?

Cell Projects - Cuvettes

A. This could be for a variety of reasons including the buffer composition changing slightly, temperature of the sample, volume or the biological nature of the sample. It is also worth noting that the storage capacitors in Electroporators also vary according to its the age and use and this can cause a variation of results. If you see a variation in efficiency we would recommend optimising the process as shown in our ‘application section’. In addition, please contact us at info@cellprojects.com to ask any further questions that we may help you with.

Q. Why have we have seen cuvette arcing?

A. Arcing is not unknown in high voltage electroporation and is generally caused by the sample having too high a salt level or the cuvette not being chilled pre the electroporation process. Please refer to the bacterial applications section for advise or again contact us at info@cellprojects.com.

Q. Does the Aluminium cause any adverse affects to the electroporation process?

A. Aluminium like any metal can cause problems in high concentrations or if left in contact for a long period. All protocols advise using the cuvette only during the electroporation process for a number of practical reasons of which contact to the aluminium would be considered more a minor potential issue.

Q. You refer to Electrobuffer for Mammalian cells, what is this?

A. Electrobuffer is a culture medium that can improve efficiencies and reduce the cell trauma caused by electroporation for further details please see our brochure or refer to the instruction and application information.
